Definition
(also known as "exquisite cadaver" or "rotating corpse") A method by which a group of words, images, or sounds are collectively assembled, the result being known as the exquisite corpse. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed. Once the final piece is complete the work can be unfolded to reveal a new composition which is a synthesis of several unique styles.
Exhibition
On May 25th the Redux Contemporary Art Center will present "The Exquisite Corpse," an open call exhibition celebrating the unique collaborative surrealist drawing technique that has been in existence since the early 20th Century. Used by artists, writers, and musicians, this process
allows multiple individuals the opportunity to create a single work of art with only marginal knowledge of each others contributions.
Concert
The Exquisite Corpse concert was conceived of and organized by local composer Ray Evanoff, in collaboration with the New Music Collective. The event will integrate 12 original compositions written by 8 young composers into a single, continuous work. This will be done by using an adaptation of the Surrealist Exquisite Corpse technique.
Show times: May 25 8pm & 10pm / Tickets $10 -Call Redux to Reserve
