/ ABOUT THE EXHIBIT /

For the 2007 Redux Summer Artist in Residence, artist Si Jae Byun will continue her elaborate stop-motion video animations, drawings, and inflatable installations to be exhibited in both of the Redux Galleries. In addition, the artist will be present to greet and speak with the public about her ideas, process, and previous artistic experiences during her residency from June 11- July 7.

The artist will teach a Stop-Motion Animation class at Redux on June 26, 27, 28 from 6-9pm.

The work of Si Jae Byun often revolves around the artist’s childhood experiences, focusing on inner conflict from social experiences which are communicated to the viewer through the interactivity of her pieces. Using characterized images of human organs and videos that incorporate the artist’s own body, Si Jae Byun creates vibrant youthful works using multiple materials to achieve her diverse ideas.

Si Jae Byun currently based in New York City. She received a BFA and MFA from the Kookmin University in Seoul, Korea, and has just completed her second MFA from the School of the Visual Arts in NYC.  The artist has exhibited internationally included such works as “Oxygen Container” with Gallery Chang, “Da-Da-Da-Da-Da” with the Shin Art Museum, both in Korea. Additional group exhibitions include “kinaesthetics” at Visual Arts Gallery in NYC and “Dual Scenery” at Artcom Center in New Jersey.
